We are seeking skilled and confident Registered Nurses to work support a Correctional facility in Queensland. This role offers a rare opportunity to deliver essential primary and emergency healthcare services within a secure custodial setting.
As part of the on-site health team, you'll play a crucial role in supporting the health and well-being of incarcerated individuals through both preventative and responsive care. This position is suited to nurses with strong clinical judgment, a calm approach, and the ability to work independently in a complex, fast-paced environment.
Emergency Response: Attend on-site incidents, provide immediate assessment and basic first aid, escalate as needed for ambulance transfer.
Primary Health Clinics: Treat a variety of presentations including minor injuries, infections, chronic conditions, and provide mental health reviews and pathology.
Medication Administration: Dispense daily scheduled medications across multiple units, including Opioid Substitution Therapy (e.g., methadone).
Reception Screening: Conduct thorough health assessments of new inmates upon entry to custody; identify urgent needs and initiate care plans.
General Nursing Duties: Undertake patient assessments, reviews and clinical follow-ups as required. Document care and liaise with multidisciplinary teams.
Minimum 4 years of post-grad nursing experience
Background in correctional, ED, mental health, or primary healthcare preferred
Sound clinical decision-making and triage capability
Comfortable working autonomously in a secure environment
Strong communication and documentation skills
AHPRA registration – unrestricted
Current Police Check & QLD Health compliance requirements
